Introduction:
Fasting has been practiced for centuries, not only as a religious ritual but also as a means of promoting physical and mental well-being. Recently, I embarked on a 72-hour fast, eager to explore the potential benefits it could offer. In this blog, I will share my personal journey, the challenges I faced, and the remarkable transformations I experienced during this extended period of abstaining from food.
Day 1: Embracing the Hunger
As I entered the first day of my fast, I braced myself for the initial hunger pangs. To my surprise, the hunger was not as intense as I had anticipated. Instead, I felt a sense of clarity and heightened focus. Without the need to think about food, my mind felt liberated, allowing me to fully immerse myself in other activities.
Day 2: Mind over Matter
As the second day dawned, the true test of willpower began. The hunger was more pronounced, and my body craved nourishment. However, I reminded myself of the purpose behind this fast – to cleanse my body and knew that my body would slip into Autophagy (Cell regeneration) any minute. It was during this phase that I experienced moments of introspection and self-reflection. I realized how often I turned to food out of habit. This newfound awareness empowered me to find healthier ways to address these feelings.
Day 3: The Feeling of Renewal
On the final day of my fast, I woke up feeling lighter, both physically and mentally. However I felt a layer of fatigue and lethargy that i hadn't felt before. I managed through the day and my afternoon run felt terrible! by the 70th hour i had started to feel it. I started to look at the reintroduction of food and how Muslims do it during their regular fasts, it seemed dates and milk were the go to - soft foods.
Conclusion: The Power of Fasting
Embarking on a 72-hour fast was a transformative experience that went beyond the physical realm. It challenged my relationship with food, increased my self-awareness, and provided a profound sense of renewal and understanding of fuel for running. While fasting may not be suitable for everyone, it can serve as a powerful tool for self-discovery and personal growth. It is essential to approach fasting with caution, seeking guidance from healthcare professionals and listening to our bodies' signals.
As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the newfound appreciation for the power of self-discipline. The 72-hour fast served as a reminder that our bodies are resilient and capable of remarkable transformations. Whether it be through fasting or other wellness practices, let us continue to explore the incredible potential for growth and well-being that lies within us.
